what is pilates?

Pilates as defined by its creator, Joseph Pilates in his book Return to Life Through Contrology, is a system of exercises designed with the intention of “properly and scientifically exercising every muscle in your body in order to improve the circulation of the blood so that the blood stream may carry more and better blood to feed every fiber and tissue of your body.”

Because it is low-impact and designed across multiple pieces of supportive equipment, Pilates remains accessible to people through all stages of life and is often recommended as a compliment to physical therapy.
